February's lunch will feature Terry Shima of the Japanese American Veterans Association, who will tell the little-known story of the Japanese-American soldiers who served in the United States military in World War II.

These veterans recently received the Congressional Gold Medal.

Day Trip to Historic Blenheim House

Saturday, February 4, 2012

Bus departs at 9:30 am from the
Annandale United Methodist Church
6935 Columbia Pike
and returns no later than 3:00 pm.

Cost: $10

Take a trip back in time to a peaceful idyll in the heart of Fairfax City. This 12-acre site features an interpretive center, historic buildings and beautiful vistas that will transport you to the Fairfax of yesteryear. The house contains one of the best-preserved examples of Civil War inscriptions in the nation, a diary on walls left by Civil War soldiers.

The Program

9:15 – 10:20 am -- Easy Does it Yoga for Seniors, led by Bonnie Kendrick and Pamela Wilson

10:20-10:30 Refreshment Break

10:30 – 11:30 am -- The Early Christian Church, the Third 300 Years, led by John Rybicki
John Riybicki returns for lead us in this fascinating study of the history of the development of the Christian Church. He is an outstanding teacher who teaches regularly at NOVA, George Mason University, Greenspring, and Riderwood.

11:30 - 12:00 Refreshment Break

12:00 – 1:00 pm -- A Potpourri for Seniors, with local experts in various fields.

February 1 A Life in Germany after WWII, with author Johanna Willner
February 8 Raptors. A discussion led by Kent Knowles of the Raptor Conservancy of Virginia
February 15 Guadalcanal Tarawa and Beyond, with author William Rogal
February 22 The History of Railroads during the Civil War. Led by local historian Jon Vrana
February 29 I Can’t Hear You; Do you have a hearing problem? Led by hearing expert Bonnie O’Leary
March 7 I Can’t Hear You; Techie stuff to the rescue! Also led by Bonnie O’Leary March 14 I Can’t Hear You; Living and laughing with hearing loss. Also led by Bonnie O’Leary

Registration

The cost for the seven-week program is only $45. This payment entitles you to attend one or all of the classes on each Wednesday during the fall term. Refunds will be approved only in extraordinary circumstances.

The Adventures in Learning Program is sponsored by The Shepherd’s Center of Annandale Springfield and is open to all ages 50 or older. 

If you or anyone you know, would like to participate, but find it to be a financial burden, assistance is available. 

Inclement weather policy: If Fairfax County Public Schools are closed or have a delayed opening due to bad weather, our classes are cancelled for that day and we try to reschedule those classes.
